FAQs
Q Can anyone use the scooters?
A Yes, as long we are satisfied they are able to operate them safely and use them responsibly. Under 18s will require adult supervision throughout the duration of use.
Q Do I need insurance?
We will try to ensure the vehicles and the trails are safe to use, and there is a basic level of insurance cover for third-party liability in place, but users must be responsible for managing their own health conditions and the risks associated with outdoor exercise. Here’s a link to the summary limitations of our insurance (TBC)
Q How much does it cost?
As the vehicles have been fully funded, we will only require a deposit to cover the safe return of all equipment, including keys.
Q Do I need to pass a test or have a licence?
No, but we will ensure that you are safe to use the vehicles before you go out onto the farm. We will work with you to make sure that you are confident using the vehicle, and you must comply with our guidance as to how to use the vehicles and where you can take them.
Q Do I have to be able to open gates to get round the farm?
There will be gates that will open by either a button or a key-fob remote control supplied with the vehicles.
Q What happens if I have an accident?
In the event of an accident requiring medical assistance, you are expected to use emergency services as you would in any other setting. We recommend users of the vehicles install the free What 3 Words app onto their phones to assist emergency service or farm retrieval. We will provide a mobile telephone number to call in the event of practical assistance being required and should be able to reach anyone requiring help quickly.
Q What happens if the battery runs out?
We will make sure the batteries are charged for the length of your hire session. As the battery on both vehicles will last a full day we do not anticipate batteries running out, but if there is a malfunction, a call to the mobile number should produce assistance fairly quickly.
Q Does it turn over or crash?
Any vehicle can be turned over, and there are some slopes and uneven ground on the farm as the trails are deliberately ‘un-improved’ to preserve the quality of the countryside. All the recommended routes can be navigated safely if the proper care is taken. Traversing the off-path slopes and fields is not permitted for safety, farming and environmental reasons. The vehicles are designed to be as safe as possible, and the Terrain Hopper can be operated by someone walking alongside the vehicle, offering the possibility for use by people without joystick or hand control skills.
Q What happens if I go through mud or puddles?
If you go too fast, you will get wet! While there are dykes, ditches and ponds on the farm, puddles are usually shallow and can be safely driven through, with care. Both vehicles have rugged tyres that can cope with muddy conditions on the paths.
Q Can I bring my dog?
Yes, although they must always remain on a lead. You must be confident that you can control both the vehicle and dog simultaneously, so we recommend not bringing your dog to your first visit. There are roads with fast-moving traffic nearby, and in the nesting seasons there are ground-nesting birds on the farm. There are other animals on the farm, and it is not advisable to take a dog into any field where there is livestock.
Q I don’t know whether I can operate it – can I try it first?
Yes, if you want to book a visit to see the vehicle and try it in the farmyard, you are very welcome to do so. We recommend an hour for a full visit to try both vehicles and experience how they handle the terrain. There is no deposit required for these sessions as we will be helping you.
Q Do I need to clean it once I’ve used it?
No, we will clean the vehicle and recharge the batteries when you return it. If you have experienced any problems during your session, please tell us so we can ensure that the vehicles are fully operational for the next user.
