Tramper & Terrain Hopper
The Tramper and Terrain Hopper are mobility scooters for use on or off-road. They make it easier to cover rough ground, slopes, puddles, muddy conditions and uneven surfaces and so provide access to remoter areas for those who might not think they could reach them. The speed varies but compares with walking pace, so are ideal for exploring the countryside with other people. They can be set to go a little faster, so are also great for keeping up with runners and enthusiastic dogs!
The Tramper is slightly smaller, lighter, and simpler. The Terrain Hopper is more rugged and suitable for very muddy conditions, and provides greater support to the user. Both can be hired at the same time if two people want to explore together. There are other differences between the vehicles, but both are strong, reliable and enjoyable to use.
Our scooters can be used by anyone who struggles to get out into the great outdoors. We don’t need to know why you might need to use them; we just want you to be able to explore our local area. You can book the scooter in advance for a morning, afternoon or a full day. We will make sure that you leave the farmyard safe and confident on the scooter you’re hiring. We will give you a phone number to call if you have any problems while using the scooters. We will normally require a deposit to cover the safe return of all equipment supplied for the safe use of the vehicles.
When you’re out and about on the scooters, we’d like you to be with another person during your first visit. On any repeat visit, you’re welcome to go out alone within the defined area of our farmland. We’ll provide you with a guide to the different trails round the farm – many designed specifically for the scooters. Not all local farmland is accessible, so please use the scooters only within the Wold Newton Farm area, unless specific written permission has been given for you to go beyond the area. Leaving the farm area will be considered theft.
We recommend you always wrap up warmly throughout the year and bring any refreshments you might need with you. Binoculars, cameras, sketch books, field guides can be stowed in the storage box on the Tramper if you want to bring them with you.
What You Need To Do
Read through the guides which show you how the vehicles work.
Book and pay for your session using the website, and you will receive a confirmation email. If you cannot use the website, we will book your session by phone and you can pay when you arrive.
For your first visit, bring a friend or expect to be accompanied by a volunteer until you’re safe and confident using the vehicle. You’re very welcome to bring friends and family along to share your adventure.
Dress appropriately – wrap up warmly and bring a waterproof! If you regularly use a wheelchair or mobility scooter you will know how much colder even a warm day can feel when seated outside.
Come to North Farm Yard, Wold Newton, Lincolnshire LN8 6BP. What3Words = archduke.gangway.buggy. There is free parking on the roadside next to the Farm. If you need to be dropped off in the farmyard itself, let us know. Park considerately as there are lots of other visitors to the area and farm machinery operates in the farmyard and village throughout the week.
You’ll be met by a volunteer who will show you round the vehicle you have booked and answer any questions you may have. Complete a short trial ride round the farmyard to ensure you feel confident using the scooter.
Take a map of the trails and head off! The map shows how long it will take to cover each trail at average pace, so you can plan where you want to go. Allow plenty of time to stop and enjoy the views.
Enjoy your visit, returning to the farmyard at the end of your session. We will clean the vehicle and recharge the batteries ready for the next user. Please let us know what you thought of it; then book your next session. If there are things we can improve, tell us. If you’ve enjoyed it, tell your friends and family!
